In the Darjeeling area of West Bengal, India, a spiral railway known as the Batasia Loop was built to lessen the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway's ascending grade. From here, one may take in the breathtaking vista of Mt. Kanchenjunga and other snow-capped Himalayan peaks as well as the incredible technical feat of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, which sees the train line plummet 1000 feet in height while negotiating a circle almost imperceptibly. The War Memorial, built in honor of the gallant Gorkha Soldiers who gave their lives defending the country, is located exactly in the middle of the loop.

The tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, may also be seen from this location on a clear day. The traveler has an incredible and unforgettable experience at sunrise when the peaks of Kanchenjunga light up before the sun appears anyplace else in the city. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
The 2-foot Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also referred to as the Toy Train or DHR, connects Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri. Constructed in the years 1879–1881, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1999. It is around 88 km (55 mi) long and uses six zigzags and five loops to rise from approximately 100 m (330 ft) above sea level in New Jalpaiguri to about 2,200 m (7,200 ft) at Darjeeling. Experience the exhilarating atmosphere of the surrounding area and the snow-capped mountains by enjoying a joy ride that connects Darjeeling and Siliguri. This train remains to be powered by several steam-based engines from when it began operations in 1881, making it a distinctive example of a colonial-era symbol. Both the steam-hauled Red Panda service from Darjeeling to Kurseong and the tourist trains from Darjeeling to Ghum, India's highest railway station, are driven by diesel engines.
